Why ASSP?
Spam continues to be a major barrier to effective communications. Perhaps the biggest problem is not that junk email may occasionally arrive in your inbox, but that a genuine message from a client or prospective client may not arrive.
ASSP is an advanced anti-spam solution. It works as a front-end to an existing mail server (e.g. Exchange or Postfix systems).
A few features:
- Multi-platform - written in Perl so runs on all popular server platforms.
- Automatic white-listing - you will never miss a message from an established contact.
- Very low maintenance once properly configured.
- Open source - no license fees.
Alternatives - hosted solutions
Solutions such MessageLabs are effective, but have a couple of very significant disadvantages:
- Cost - incremental per email address
- Security and privacy risk - by definition, all your mail is routed via a third party.
Some real world statistics
Our live ASSP service which front-ends SMTP for netgenius.co.uk and a number of our clients currently receives around 3000 attempted spam messages per day. The proportion of these which are not correctly identified as spam is tiny - approximately 0.005% or one per week.
